We celebrate the Opening Ceremony of Glenellen, our largest solar plant in Australia

With this plant, located in Jindera, we are marking three new milestones in our history in Australia:

It is our largest solar PV plant in the country.

It is the first plant we have commissioned in New South Wales.

It is our first agrisolar project in the country.

On 1 October, we officially inaugurated Glenellen Solar Farm, a new project that strengthens our growth in Australia and our contribution to the country’s energy transition.

With an export capacity of 200 MW, the facility covers an area of approximately 300 hectares.

The plant is expected to generate 450 GWh of renewable electricity per year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 80,000 households, while avoiding around 385,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions each year.

Glenellen represents another step forward for GPG Australia. Located 2 kilometres from Jindera and 20 kilometres from Albury, the plant has approximately 373,000 solar modules.

One of the project’s distinctive features is the coexistence of renewable energy generation and agricultural activity. Thanks to its design, sheep grazing can continue on the land within the facility. It is a great example of how renewable energy development can be integrated with the local environment and ecosystems.

The inauguration brought together representatives from GPG Australia, institutions, partner companies, landowners and the local community. Attendees included Pedro Serrano (Managing Director of GPG Australia), Gema Deus (Chief Operations Officer), Shaq Mohajerani (Chief Development Officer), Juan Carlos Cobo (Project Director at Glenellen Solar Farm), María Sacristán (Project Engineer) and Thomas Doake (Plant Manager at Glenellen Solar Farm).

We were also joined at the ceremony by Angus Holcombe (off-taker, Telstra Energy) and Nic Black (Lumea), as well as representatives from Greater Hume Council, Transgrid, Monford Group and other partners involved in the project.

The inauguration was also an opportunity to celebrate the journey that brought us to this point. During the event, we looked back at Glenellen’s development, from construction through to commissioning, and heard from some of the people who helped make the project possible. The event concluded with the presentation of a commemorative gift and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a symbolic moment to recognise the work and collaboration behind this new milestone.

“I would like to recognise our teams in Australia and Spain. Your dedication, expertise and commitment have been fundamental to bringing Glenellen to life. ” -Pedro Serrano, Managing Director of GPG Australia

Beyond the figures, Glenellen is the result of collaboration between our teams in Australia and Spain, institutions, the local community, landowners and the different companies involved in its development and construction. This collaboration has turned the project into a new reality for our renewable energy business in Australia.

In addition, its agrisolar approach enables us to continue exploring ways to integrate renewable energy generation with the local environment and create value beyond energy production itself.

Don’t miss the project video we showed during the inauguration

Glenellen represents another step forward in our growth in Australia and reflects our commitment to continuing to develop renewable energy projects that integrate with their local environment, create value for communities and contribute to advancing the country’s energy transition.

To mark this milestone, several colleagues who have been involved in the project tell us more about the challenges and the major undertaking behind reaching this point in a new edition of Voice in the Territories.
